Here in the UK, we have enjoyed some unusually warm September and October weather, but we cannot fail to notice the shorter days and the freshness in the air. I love autumn, not least because my birthday is in early October. Crisp, clear skies, crunchy leaves and crackling fires heighten the senses, bringing texture, both tangible and sensory, to our surroundings. Autumn gives us permission to slow down and rest a little, as per Mother Nature. Paradoxically, it heralds the start of the festive season during which we are collectively, at our most sociable.
Autumn colours are perhaps more identifiable than those of any other season. Its colours are as vivid as those in summer, but the palette is tighter: greens, yellows, russets and brown prevail. Here I’m celebrating the new season and wearing three stand out pieces of STEPPER eyewear for autumn in gloriously rich yet mellow autumn hues.
Green and Plum Eyewear
SI-30135 F680 combines green and plum in the most beautiful, subtle way. This is. A neat and very feminine style that will transcend the seasons.
This timeless, flattering style comes in a choice of 12 colours including other bi-coloured options.

Burgundy Eyewear
SI-30198 F330 Melted milk chocolate meets burgundy in this understated Titanium style. “Tortoiseshell” adds subtle style detail to the inside rims of the frame. Other available colours include blue, purple and black.

Russet Eyewear
SI-50268 F033 in russet red Titanium has a statement silhouette which is very wearable. This is one of my favourite STEPPER styles of all time and I have it in green with prescription sun lenses in. It is super lightweight and very flattering. It is super lightweight and very flattering and is also available in yellow and in blue.

Lizzy some beautiful styles and ideas.
I got my first reading glasses just after I was forty with a +1.25 prescription, now a year later my prescription has gone up to +1.75. Is this a normal progression and how much worse will my eyes get? I find in bad light I am totally dependent on my glasses to read. You have been wearing glasses for a while has your prescription changed much?
Hi Grace, yes- there are so many gorgeous frame styles.
What you’re experiencing is absolutely normal. It is called presbyopia and is a normal ageing process of the visual system. To enable us to focus on something close, the lens inside of the eye needs to change shape to refocus. As we age, that lens gets progressively stiffer so it can’t change shape enough. Along with that, the muscles that enable the lens to change shape get weaker. The quickest change is between 40-55 years so what you are experiencing is normal. I was 42 when I had my first reading addition +1.25Ds. Now, aged 50, it is +2.25Ds. It will plateau later on I promise!
Lighting makes a huge difference too. The visual system works best in natural daylight, so at this time of year when we are under artificial light, it is more difficult to see smaller print.I often say to my patients that even on a dull day, it is easier to read outdoors than it is with a 100 watt bulb in the ceiling.
I hope this reassures you- don’t hesitate to ask anything else. I wrote about this briefly in this blog post just after I got my first reading glasses https://www.whatlizzyloves.com/2018/01/reading-glasses.html
have a lovely end of the week, Lizzy x
