My husband and indeed the weighing scale at check-in may disagree, but I think I’ve become much better at packing for a summer holiday. I’ve streamlined my packing by taking note of what I’ve overpacked previously- namely jewellery, shoes and beachwear. So often I wore the same few pieces of jewellery or pair of sandals day after day.
What I’m packing for Sicily.
Ian and I are heading to Sicily today for nine days. Six in Taormina and three in the capital, Palermo. The weather in Sicily in late September/early October is still very warm with temperatures in the mid-to-late 20s.
We plan to have some time relaxing by the pool and on the beach so I’ve packed two bikinis and three beach dresses/cover ups. I have a few, what I term “breakfast/sightseeing dresses”. These are lightweight and more casual than my evening outfits but smart enough for me to feel “dressed”. For the evenings in Sicily I have a few dresses, a jumpsuit and a skirt co-ord.
I find that it helps to decide on two or three colour palettes. I lay the clothing out then choose co-ordinating jewellery, bag, shoes and eyewear.
Zesty Brights
I’m currently obsessed with all things green. I’ll team my Me + Em green jumpsuit and lime green dress, the Boden lemon-print dress and the Farm Rio yellow maxi dress with these fabulous green Bibi Lou sandals and the Cult Gaia lime green bag.
Peachy Pinks
The second palette is softer- pink and peach. I love the volume of the Three Graces pink striped dress- it makes me want to twirl and swoosh. This is perfect for a leisurely lunch. I bought the peach Miguelina dress for our honeymoon. I wore it the day after our wedding because it reminded me of my wedding dress then wore it on honeymoon in Crete. It’s a versatile dress-perfect for lunch, sightseeing and evening. The Ancient Greek sandals with their sweet flower detail are a lovely neutral. I have had a few pairs of Ancient Greek sandals and have said before that if I could only pack one pair of shoes, they would be the ones.
Bold Blues
My final selection is based around bright blue. The plain bikini is from Next. The printed one is from Boden in the same Ivory Bluebell print as the skirt co-ord. The spotted voile dress from Zimmerman is a real holiday wardrobe hero. It’s lightweight and breezy and can be worn with or without straps.
The straw clutch bag is from Boden a few years ago. I like having a straw clutch of some description to take to lunch. The raffia earrings are from the Royal Academy.
The majority of my clothing and accessories in this blog post are from previous seasons, but the items linked above below are still available.
Please do take a look at my page here too because it’s I link all current outfits. Thank you!
