I’ve always loved a scalloped hemline or sleeve. It’s a detail I used to wax lyrical about in the early days of this blog. Incidentally, it was my blog’s 10th birthday last month. I didn’t mention it because there are infinitely more important things going on and because blogging in general is much less of a thing these days. Tik Tok and Instagram, especially Instagram Reels, have superseded blogs. Very few women who were blogging when I started mine are still live in the blogosphere. It’s a shame because I miss reading their content. Life and times change and I get that, but I’d rather carry on as I am – sharing my favourite photos on Instagram and blogging when I can. I just cannot bring myself to, (and nor do I have the time to), make video after video of me getting ready. I’m happy with me doing me.
M&S Blue Tiered Cutwork Maxi Dress
Anyway, back to this M&S blue tiered cutwork maxi dress. At the time of writing there are a few sizes left but be quick- it’s only £45 and it won’t hang around for long. It’s easy to wear- loose and comfortable with a simple button fastening at the back. It’s lined from the top down to the knee and is 100% cotton so it’s perfect for this glorious warm weather. I wore it on Father’s Day when my parents came for lunch. I will also wear it from beach to bar, for barbecues and picnics and whenever else I want to.

These beautiful earrings are the Abhika by independent jewellery brand Nekewlam. They were gifted to me a few years ago now and I wear them often because they’re in my colour comfort zone, about which I wrote here. They are elegant, dainty and simple in their beauty. Not only that, they’re lightweight and very comfortable to wear. They come in a number of different colourways, each as exquisite as each other, adorned as they are with semi-precious gems.
By the way, we took these photographs in our unintentionally, but rather pretty and good for the bees, re-wilded garden. Follow Ian and I as we renovate our Grade II- listed Victorian home on Instagram @built_in_1873 and here on my blog in the Built in 1873 category.

What a pretty dress – I love the colour and style. Beautiful on you Lizzy and perfect for summer. I started my blog in September 2018. So my blog is still fairly young in blogosphere terms. I was inspired by you and other bloggers which I would read frequently and enjoy. Then when Life got easier and I had more time I started my own blog, very nervously, I may add as I’m quite a shy person! I got great support and kind words from Catherine “Not Dressed As Lamb” who spurred me on. I soon realised I had to do Instagram too ( bad timing) which I’ve never enjoyed. My reason for starting my blog was to fulfil my love of writing, learn photography, indulge in fashion, and…. to share midlife experiences, with other like-minded people ie getting older, children leaving the nest…..then coming back😂relationships, beauty – the list goes on. I have cut my time on Instagram, and like you only share favourite pics. I still blog as I still really enjoy it – though it is a lot more work than an Instagram post. I’ve never made a video of myself getting ready either!!😂 I’m happy being me too! I so agree!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment Alison. I started my blog for very similar reasons- a love of writing and a love of photography. You’re absolutely right- a blog post takes so much more time than an Instagram post but it is a lovely way to document the huge changes that happen at this stage in our lives! And Catherine is such a cheerleader for this community. I met her through my blog and her and Keith came to our wedding in 2021 as did Lisa,(The Sequinist) and her husband. Blogging really does lead to real life friendships. I wish you all the very best with the continuation of your blog, much love, Lizzy x
