Friday 5th May: Out for Dinner

Saturday 6th May: Coronation Day
A 4am start but the sun was making an appearance.
But the sun soon turned to rain as per the forecast.
We had a good position along The Mall and saw the King and Queen en-route to the Abbey…
…And on the way back. In the carriage behind the King and Queen were the Wales family and the Edinburghs in the one after that. The Princess Royal rode behind the carriages on horseback.
Once the procession finished, the police moved the barriers and shepherded the crowds towards the balcony. We were pleasantly surprised by how close we got. It was amazing to see the Royal Family there. They were al animated especially Prince Louis.
It was a very long, wet day. We got up at 4am and were at The Mall by 6am. The King didn’t come past until 10.30am. The Coronation ceremony was 11am-1pm so it was 1.30pm when the procession came back. There was a lot of standing and shuffling in one position but I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It’s something we’ll all remember for the rest of our lives.
Back to the hotel to dry-off. It was nice to take the raincoats off to shoe off our patriotic dresses!
