Ian and I are moving.
When you meet later in life as we did, it’s likely that there are two homes and two lots of children. We fall into that category; my home is in Skipton and Ian’s is 100 miles away in Cullercoats. We spend the vast majority of our time in Skipton because of my work. Ian mainly works from home so is more flexible.
Cullercoats
Strolls on the beach, the array of eateries and the natural beauty of the area have made for very happy long weekends up at Ian’s home. But, because we only go once every three weeks or so, the grass always needs cutting and we have ended up with several unfinished decorating projects. We are paying a mortgage, council tax and standing energy bills on a property we barely use. It just doesn’t make financial sense.
Skipton
My house in Skipton has been a safe haven for my children and me. I bought it off-plan eight years ago and it has been perfect for Poppy and Harry’s teenage years: ideally located for their schools, Saturday jobs and friends. It’s a five minute walk from the railway station and an equal distance from the centre of town. It really has been the perfect location.
But it’s time for a new start. A joint, forever home for Ian and me. Something we can put our own joint stamp on and can future-proof with room for our children and, hopefully, (but not just yet please), grandchildren.
Moving is a huge, life-changing decision for both of us for many different reasons. We will miss Ian’s home by the sea. However, we will visit the area just as often as we did, in order to see Ian’s children and to get our fix of sea air. We’ll stay in an Air BnB and enjoy the change of scenery without having to do the jobs.
We’ll miss our lovely neighbours in Skipton and the ideal location. I’ll find it hard to say goodbye to my Mediterranean-style courtyard garden. But our overwhelming feeling is one of excitement. We cannot wait to start this new chapter together.
All that remains now is the matter of selling two houses…

Good luck to you both on your selling and buying a new house together! How exciting! Will you stay working at the optometrists by your current home? x
Thank you so much. Yes I will. We want to stay in the area and I love my job too much to move too far xxx
Sounds like exciting times, Lizzy! We moved house recently…it’s a funny situation. We sold our house, and we’re now renting the villa next door while we build our new home which is, again, right next door lol!
Best of luck with your house sales. I look forward to reading more about it!
Sorry I haven’t been over to the blog for a while. I just realised I was no longer receiving notifications.
Big higs
