A picnic on Tynemouth Longsands beach.
Well that went very quickly! It’s Sunday evening and it only feels like a few hours since I finished work on Wednesday and drove up to Cullercoats to join Ian who had been working up there. Poppy and her boyfriend stayed with us Thursday and Friday nights. The weather was good on Thursday so we took a picnic lunch to the beach and spent the afternoon there which was super- so relaxing. And, I was able to wear a few pieces from my UK beach capsule wardrobe too. (See this blog post for more details and links). After showering and changing, we went out for tapas along with Ian’s children.

Brunch at Valerie’s (again).
Valerie’s in Whitley Bay is becoming our go-to place for brunch- we went again on Friday. The food is lovely- I had my usual smashed avo and poached eggs on toast- and the young staff are always excellent.
Afterwards we walked around the bay and into Tynemouth and stopped off at Allard’s Lounge for a drink. Like Valerie’s, Allard’s is a place that never disappoints.
We spent the evening at home. It was just so nice to spend time with Poppy and Ollie. Durham is only a half-hour drive away yet it’s the first time we’ve managed to do this for various reasons not least lockdowns and busy undergraduate courses.
The Platinum Jubilee Concert
I love the Royal Family and revel in every bit of pomp and circumstance. It’s a shame the Queen wasn’t well enough to enjoy all of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend events in person but I’m sure she’ll know what a success the whole weekend, especially the concert, was. As always I love seeing the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfits and Ian and I both thought Prince William’s speech was very well-executed. We thoroughly enjoyed the Platinum Jubilee Weekend- after all, it truly is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
