As much as I adore everything about the festive season, (which I deem to start on my birthday in October), I’m always desperate to clear the decks (and the decs), by December 27th. I cannot wait to take the garland down, undress the tree and generally declutter the home. Similarly, in a sartorial vein, I’m ready to swap my glittery nail polish for something more neutral and my “blingy” jewellery for something more understated. I pack (most of) my sequins and velvet away and I look to my wardrobe for simple outfits. It’s as though I need to detox and remove everything that’s in excess.
At this time of year, I’m drawn to simple shapes, soft colours and gentle styles. In my mind, accessories are as important as the outfit. I choose them carefully to compliment the aesthetic and the mood of the look I aim to achieve. So, my eyewear must also be pared back. Cue timeless basics and simple lines.
Understated eyewear
Here, I’ve accessorised my *relaxed denim jeans and *white shirt with its broderie detail (which is currently half price), with three pieces of STEPPER eyewear. Each one is beautiful, and timeless. They are styles that whisper rather than shout and we all need a quantum of quiet at this time of year.
Model SI-30137 in colour F230, a translucent nude pink, has a touch of filigree detail at the temple and the side. It is THE perfect day-to-evening style in a flattering soft shape. As with all STEPPER eyewear, it is supremely lightweight and comfortable. It feels as though it’s barely there. And as with any translucent frame, it highlights the undereye area to optically minimise the appearance of dark shadows, helpfully disguising the fact that Christmas merriment has taken its toll.

Model SI-30148 is in colour F150, a flattering grey which suits every skin tone because the shade is neither too cool nor too warm. The slightly upswept style draws the eye upwards, again detracting from dark shadows. There is subtle patterning at the temple which adds interest and visual texture.

Model SI-30128 in colour F440 has metal sides which add interest. The mid-brown shade is mellow, soothing and easy on the eye. It is sophisticated and chic. This is understated elegance at its finest. This one is going straight onto my favourites list.

Broderie frill cotton shirt
You all know by now that I adore anything with broderie detail. This Boden broderie frill cotton shirt is so feminine and pretty. It is lightweight so I have a nude vest underneath which makes it suitable to wear all year round. I’m tempted to get a v-neck cardigan or perhaps even an knitted tank top to wear over the top.

Interesting read Lizzy, and your photos are gorgeous. Have a super week my friend. Jacqui x
Thank you so much Jacqui. You’re very kind xxx
You always look so bright eyed and gorgeous, Lizzy! Those first glasses, and the brown ones are stunning! I really need to get my eyes tested again, I’ve noticed such a deterioration in my eyesight over the past year 🙁
I, too, love taking down the Christmas decorations once it’s over, because it all feels so cluttered after a while!
I hope all is fabulous with you.
Big hugs
Suzy xx
Thank you Suzy. Honestly, first thing in the morning I look anything but bright eyed. Yes, the brown style is beautiful. I have just had my prescription lenses put in. I’m so pleased with them. And yes, it’s soooo good to declutter isn’t it! xxx
I didn’t realise the broderie blouse was such thin fabric. I was going to buy it, until I saw this. It’s completely see through. Sorry Boden. This blog has lost you an order, but saved me some money. Thank you Lizzie.
HI Susie, yes, it is a cotton voile, (I think) so it is semi-transparent. I have been wearing a lot as a layering piece under sweaters but also with a nude cami under it. And no worries about the order- I will always try my best to represent things in a true and authentic way. You can reallocate your budget now!! xxx
