Wow! The first of September already. A lot has happened since last blogged. We got married! And it was the best and happiest day of my life.
There’s so much to share but I know myself that THE DRESS is what I most look forward to seeing at other weddings, so I’ll start with that. I put several wedding photos on Instagram shortly after the wedding, including a selection of sneak peeks from our photographer if you’d like to see more. When we get the rest of the professional photos back, I’ll share more both here on my blog and on Insta.
I began looking for dresses in wedding magazines and on wedding websites shortly after we got engaged in October 2018, so I had quite a good idea of what I wanted: something full length and romantic in nude or blush, with a bit of a boho vibe. I made notes about my favourites and realised that two or three wedding dress designers came up again and again. The Bridal Emporium in Leeds was my nearest stockist so Poppy and I went in June 2020 when retail re-opened after the first lockdown.
Choosing my wedding dress
The assistant asked me to start by choosing five dresses to try on.
En-route to the fitting room, I spotted this dress, Peregrine by Watters. It made my heat beat faster, so I tried it on first and fell in love.
I tried the others on afterwards. They were all lovely but not perfect.

As soon as I put Peregrine back on and it had been pinned to fit, I knew it was the one for me. So… I said yes to this dress.

First wedding dress fitting
I had my first fitting six weeks before the wedding. Again, Poppy came with me. The dress has a double-layer bodice so the seamstress pinned each layer in to fit. The length didn’t need shortening – I’m tall and I had high wedding shoes which I took with me. The dress was really taking shape.
Final wedding dress fitting
Poppy was away for my final fitting but my mum was the perfect substitute. She’d seen my dress on the hanger at home, but hadn’t seen me wearing it, so it was lovely to show her. The alterations made for a perfect fit and I was over the moon.
We celebrated with a fabulous lunch at The Ivy, which you might have seen in my previous blog post.

As I said, I’ll post some professional photos of me in my wedding dress when we have them back but I hope you have enjoyed these behind the scenes candid photos.
