I chose this stunning Swarovski-set cat-eye optical frame to feature in the Trend Watch video series that I create for Optometry Today. I’m often attracted to eyewear with an upswept shape, in particular a cat-eye style. In part, this is because this shape best suits me. As well as that though, an upswept shape draws the eye of the beholder upwards, so taking the attention away from those pesky under-eye dark circles. But it was the exquisitely decadent wavy sides on this by Pier Martino piece that stood out and caught my eye.

Swarovski-set eyewear isn’t a new concept. However, I predict we’ll see people choosing styles that are more decorative than they would have done previously. I’ve noticed recently that a lot of my own patients opt for statement styles. They’re treating themselves to something special. Wearing a face mask during the pandemic has meant that we see people’s eyes in isolation from the rest of their features, so their spectacles are more noticeable. This too has an influence.
Running parallel to that though is the desire to invest in something timeless, something that will last for years and that won’t go out of fashion. Pier Martino eyewear ticks all of these boxes: it’s chic, elegant, beautifully made and modern. It epitomises timeless style and I adore the brand.
This Swarovski-set cat-eye frame by Pier Martino is model number 6641. It’s available too in black and ivory. The latter would be perfect for a special summer occasion such as a wedding or day at the races.

It’s an optical frame but the strong shape and size make it perfect for sun lenses too. Decisions, decisions…
