I’m not quite sure whether this dress is more reminiscent of those styles from the 1950s or those from the 1960s. So to act as a catch-all, I’ve decided to describe it a midcentury-style dress. It’s by Marie Zélie, an elegant Polish brand that celebrates femininity and ladylike dressing. (Get 10% off at Marie Zélie until March 31st 2021 with code Eizabeth10).

Midcentury-style dress with statement accessories
The dress is beautifully made with a flattering cut and a timeless silhouette that make it perfect for so many occasions. It’s demure, yet it emphasises the female form. It’s the type of dress that Kate Middleton might wear with suede knee-high boots or nude wedges. Myself, I prefer a touch of animal print. I’ve had these leopard-print patent shoes for over seven years and the bag just less than that. I never tire of either, which serves to reinforce my belief that all animal prints works as a neutral.
Accessories need not match- mine don’t- but a certain amount of cohesion will pull the outfit together and make it look polished. The leopard print of my bag and my shoes is of different textures, but similar colours. These colours are echoed in the sides of my sunglasses. And, the shape of the sunglasses is echoed in the shape of my stunning emerald green cocktail ring. In turn, the retro style of the sunglasses compliments the retro feel of this midcentury style dress.
And a quick word about the ring. It’s from young British brand Arlette Gold. Their ethos is “created and curated” and they stock a selection of jewellery, handpicked from a team of international, independent designers. The pieces are unusual, affordable and classic, yet they reflect contemporary trends. This ring has rapidly become a firm favourite.
I have a similar midcentury-style dress in blue from Marie Zélie, which I teamed with another pair of fabulous animal-print shoes which you can see here. And keep an eye open for an IGTV and a Reel about the sunglasses which will be coming soon.

Great shade of green Liz! I see what you mean abut the cut, it is 50s/60s and incredibly sexy while remaining modest. Utterly fabulous xx
Thank you Michelle. Yes- it flatters curves but is modest too. I love it. One to keep for a long, long time xxx
