I’m not somebody who hates winter clothing. On the contrary, I love the sequins, velvet and the rich textures more commonly seen towards the end of the year. Come January however, I’m desperate for a wardrobe refresh. That’s not to say I buy a whole new wardrobe and discard everything from seasons past, rather I choose a select few pieces that make me feel that spring could be on the horizon. It is, as I write, literally freezing. We’ve had a lot of snow and ice these last few weeks and, here in the North of England, we get morning frosts as late in the year as May, so it’s much too soon to pack boots and winter-woollies away. But swap black boots for ivory boots and wear a light-coloured scarf and the outfit will immediately look a little more spring-like.
This outfit is one of my bi-monthly pick from Coast. I adore the whole ensemble but each individual element will bring a freshness and lightness to other outfits. (I showcased the ivory floral lace midi dress and ivory ankle boots in my previous blog post).
Fabulous Florals
Take the stunning floral jacquard trench coat. Whether it’s worn over an all black outfit or with jeans, or with a plain winter dress, it immediately adds a touch of spring, not least because spring is sartorially synonymous with florals.

When we’re allowed out after this third lockdown, I shall wear it with jeans and trainers for coffee with friends. And with a dress and heels for a dinner date with Ian. It’d be perfect to wear to an early spring wedding or for a day at the races. I adore it and I’ll keep it for decades. And the light blue-green clutch is as fresh as a daisy; perfect for injecting a touch of spring.
The scarf is large, soft and very cosy and warm, yet it doesn’t look heavy or bulky because it’s a light colour. It’s versatile, neutral accessory for autumn, winter and spring.

Perfect layered colour palette Liz. I particularly love how the size and colour of your scarf ties everything together, keeping it as a winter outfit but with a spring feel 👌🏻
Thank you Michelle. I’m desperate for some spring weather now xxx
This is such a pretty winter look Lizzie. The floral trench flies in the face of all things wintery and yet looks very practical too. I love the tip of adding the light colour boots to change the feel of the outfit – very clever!
Best wishes

Thank you Anna. It really does fly in the face of winter doesn’t it. Bring on spring though so we can ditch the scarves and woollens! xxx
