Monday June 1st and day 70 of lockdown. It seems like a good place to set a new goal. I mentioned last week that I’d been going for a walk before breakfast and that I was feeling a lot better for it. The weather has been beautiful so it’s an absolute joy to be out of doors. As a bit of an extension of that, I’ve decided to challenge myself to walk 50,000 steps per week. I have my phone on me pretty much all of the time, so I use the health app to track my steps, but I’ve ordered an inexpensive Fit-Bit style watch to make sure every single step gets counted. It’ll be particularly useful when I go back to work when I don’t have my phone about my person.
I don’t know exactly when I’ll be back, but I had a chat with the practice owner over the weekend. She’s getting everything in place for us to move into the next phase. She has ordered scrubs for us to wear as well as visors, masks and of course, gloves. We have some brilliant new sight-testing equipment which will make everything safer still for both practitioner and patient. I’m going into work on Wednesday for training and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m going to write about it in greater detail in due course because this new kit is nothing short of revolutionary. I can’t wait to use it and I’m looking forward to going back. I’m going to get contact lenses to use at work too. Glasses steam up when wearing a mask, so that’s something else I’ll sort when I go into the practice on Wednesday.
Some news from Harry’s school too today. He’s in year 12 and will return on 15th June for some contact time with his subject teachers. Only 25% of the cohort can be there at any one time and he won’t need to wear uniform. He can change out of his clothes as soon as he’s home and I’ll put them in a hot wash. I’ll do the same with my scrubs every day after work. We will all need to adapt to the new normal.
