Saturday 28th March and day five of the UK Coronavirus lockdown. How is everyone feeling today? Ordinarily on a Saturday, I’d be doing housework and catching up on chores. Harry would be at work in a local café and if Ian’s here we’d go for an afternoon stroll or perhaps have a look around some interiors shops for inspo. Poppy would of course be doing her own thing at uni. It seems, as Harry said, like a waste of a weekend. I know what he means. Today doesn’t feel much different to the last four. But, it is the perfect opportunity to do those things that we wish we had time for during a normal working week.
So today I made some soup, something I used to do a lot, but haven’t had/made time for recently. I got two large leeks for five pence, yes five pence yesterday from Morrison’s. I already had potatoes, onions, veg stock and milk, so it was a matter of finding a recipe and getting on with it. It’s healthy, nutritious and inexpensive. Perfect, especially as it’s been cooler today.
This is a little job I, (as in Ian) did the other day too. When I upcycled my Lloyd Loom chair, I had some fabric left with which I covered two blank canvases. I finally decided where I would like the smaller of the two: in a little corner of the kitchen dining area.
The fabric is by Emma J Shipley and she is currently offering two free downloadable colouring pages featuring her beautiful designs. And just so you know, this isn’t sponsored in any way. I bought the fabric myself and heard about the colouring pages from an email. If I had any artistic talent, I’d use watercolours because I love the designs. I don’t, so I might try coloured pencils. If I do and make a good job, I’ll post some photos of the finished product.
I wonder how Prince Charles and Boris Johnson are doing having both tested positive for Covid-19? The news looks bleak and the evidence from other countries means we are likely to experience a spike in the number of Coronavirus cases over the next 48 hours. I certainly won’t be doing any more food shopping for a few days. Stay home and stay safe and thank you for reading these short updates.

Hi Liz, lovely post … haven’t these 5 days passed quickly?… I had thought they may drag, but not at all.
I’ve been doing lots more cooking as well including making soup! I bought leeks, ( not as good a buy as yours! 😂) as leek and potato is a favourite of ours but I haven’t made it yet. Started with a spicy roast butternut squash and sweet potato soup ( this was sooo tasty!) then I made a cauliflower cheese one earlier ready for lunch tomorrow ( both new recipes)
Thanks for info re the free picture/ print download … I’m going to do them for my granddaughter’s room!
Take care Liz, sending virtual hugs … so glad that you have Poppy, Harry and Ian at home with you!

Hi Rosemary. Yes, they’ve flown by. Your soups sound lovely. I’ve enjoyed having more time to cook. That’s a lovely idea too about getting the downloads for your granddaughter’s room- they’re lovely aren’t they. And yes, I have my three favourite people here so I’m feeling very fortunate. Thank you as always for taking the time to comment xxxx
Keep hanging in there! Solidarity xxx
Absolutely! We’re in it together. Stay safe xxxx
I used to make leek soup all the time too, it’s delicious!
Hugs

Hi Lizzy
I’m glad you’ve decided to write this blog. Normally our Saturday is spent with me either going to my weekly slimming world meeting and then coming home to do shopping with kevin. We often see our niece too, unless it’s my weekend in work. (God I miss that place)
I’m planning to prep some meals and possibly bake a quiche this week and catch up on my reading.
Stay safe. Xx
Hi Sara, oh I’m so glad you’re enjoying these posts. If nothing else, it will be interesting to look back in years to come. I think we’ll perhaps forget some of it. I miss work too and the routine it brings, not to mention seeing my colleagues who are all friends. It’s a good idea to prep meals ahead. I’m trying my best to plan menus for three to four days at a time. Take care and stay safe too xxx
It is Suzy. So healthy too! xxx
