If like me you’re a hopeless romantic and embrace Valentine’s Day wholeheartedly, you’ll want to wear something appropriate. I have an abundance of red dresses in my wardrobe, from which to choose. This red satin dress however, has just that little bit more.

I bought it in the sale just after Christmas and wore it to afternoon tea with Poppy. (It’s the Alicia satin dress from Boden and is still available in all sizes in red, £52 and also in black at the absolutely bargain price of £39). My tartan kitten heels are also from Boden last year). The satin is wonderfully sensuous and smooth and the cut, especially at the waist, is very flattering. I adore the bow detail. It’s such a feminine finishing touch. And just look at the sleeves. It feels lovely next to the skin and because the satin reflects light, it casts a flattering sheen on the face. What more could anyone wish for in a dress. It’s perfect for a dinner date.

Ian and I went to one of our favourite restaurants, Le Caveau in Skipton. I’ve written about it a few times now because it’s always excellent. It’s only small and we’ve got to know the chef and front of house really quite well. Because of this, it almost feels like going round to a friend’s home for supper. And, therefore, I will say again that if you live in the area or plan to visit, do try it. You won’t be disappointed. I didn’t take many photos but I couldn’t resist taking one of the Tonka brulée which was absolutely divine.
