Even though it can be tricky to think of what to give as a gift so soon after Christmas, I’ve always been glad that my dad’s birthday is in January. It gives us something to look forward to, even if it’s a simple family lunch. However, I now have two birthdays to look forward to in the post-Christmas lull, because it’s Ian’s too. And this weekend we celebrated his 50th!
These sequin co-ords were a sale purchase. Both the skirt and top will work separately with a multitude of other pieces. I love the muted colours and the ladylike silhouette. I can’t think when I last wore a pencil skirt -I like it, it makes a change. We celebrated Ian’s birthday with a family party at home, so this sequin skirt suit, along with some navy sequin shoes, was the perfect outfit.

The Perfect Pair
What is the perfect eyewear to compliment these ladylike navy and pink sequin co-ords? Well, I think that introducing another colour would make the outfit look too busy, so navy frames are the ideal choice. Here, I’m wearing two different frames by Mulberry: one sunglass and one optical. Both are ladylike and elegant, in keeping with the feel of this party outfit.
Mulberry is the largest manufacturer of luxury leather goods in the UK, creating some of fashion’s most iconic handbags. I have coveted many a bag over the years. The eyewear collection was launched last year and it features sixties-inspired styles infused with Mulberry’s iconic details.
The sunglasses are the Christy (SML032v) in navy, pink and havana acetate and feature the signature Mulberry tree on one side. The colours couldn’t be more perfect could they? And these dramatic cat eye sunglasses are perfect for hiding behind while standing out.

In contrast, the optical frames are more understated, but just as elegant. They’re eminently wearable, with beautiful detail afforded by the gold reef knots. I haven’t yet had time to get prescription lenses put in this frame, but it’s on my to-do list for next week. This is already a very well-loved piece of eyewear.

I bought the sequin co-ords in the Boden sale and at the time of writing, they are available here, in most sizes, (affiliate link). The Mulberry eyewear was gifted as part of my partnership with 100% Optical.
