My December column for Optometry Today, (a professional journal for which I write a monthly eyewear column), is about my favourite celebrity spectacle wearers of 2019. I thought it might be nice to share here on my blog too; after all, many of us enjoy seeing what celebrities wear.
In the not-too-distant-past, anyone who appeared on tv was advised to replace their eyewear with contact lenses. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with contact lenses, it’s just nice to see celebrities embracing their spectacles.
Fabulous and Flamboyant
The original celebrity spectacle wearer, the Rocketman himself enjoyed a style renaissance in 2019. The biopic about Sir Elton’s life served to remind us just how fabulously flamboyant his eyewear wardrobe is.
Strictly Stylish
It’s sequin season and keen-eyed Strictly fans will have seen pro-dancers Kevin Clifton and Oti Mabuse wearing their specs in the training room. Wouldn’t it be fab-u-lous to see some sparkly eyewear on the dancefloor next season?
Winning Wearer
Former professional footballer and tv pundit Ian Wright rarely puts a sartorial foot wrong. His confident, striking eyewear inspires fashion and footie fans alike. And if you watch I’m a Celeb, you can, (at the time of ahem, Wrighting), have a daily dose of him sporting his specs.
Recipe for Success
Prue Leith’s vibrant eyewear and colourful clothing is a guaranteed recipe for success. Her eponymous eyewear collection, Prue by Ronit Fürst is inspiring septuagenarians everywhere to be brave and bold with their frames.
