Once in a while, I happen across a brand that is “so me” it’s as though a designer has popped into my head and translated everything I love into clothing. At the aspirational end of the spectrum it’s Self-Portrait. At the attainable end, it’s Closet London. Closet has been around for over 20 years and it’s been on my sartorial radar for about five. It’s known and loved for elegant, feminine shapes and stunning prints, and almost every garment is made in London. They always have an exquisite range of dresses for every occasion, most of which come in at under £100 and many under £80. (See the foot of the post for a 20% discount code).
As you can probably imagine, I was thrilled when Closet invited me to choose a few pieces throughout the season. Their separates are lovely, but I’m always, always drawn to dresses. It was the colours in this black-printed midi dress that first caught my eye, but it didn’t take long for me to spot the puffed sleeves, the pleated neckline, the side splits and the gorgeous detail on the back.
It would look super with ankle boots, flat or otherwise. Doc Martens and a biker jacket would give it a nineties grunge vibe. Heels and a velvet blazer or faux fur stole would transform it into the perfect autumn wedding outfit. I wore it with knee-high ruby-coloured boots and gold-coloured hoop earrings to compliment the warm colours.

And the bouquet? That was a birthday gift from my friends at work. One of the receptionists baked a cake too, as she does for every staff member’s birthday. It made my first day back after our trip to Amsterdam all the sweeter.

I agree this brand is so YOU Liz! Actually the dress you’re wearing today is so ME too😉 Love the print, the neckline and hem length. I don’t usually go for dresses with a cutout in the back because I can’t go without a bra but this one works. Top marks!
Thank you Michelle. Yes, it works with a bra which a lot of cutout backs don’t. The colours are so rich aren’t they xxx
