Clear spectacle frames have been around for decades. Those “of a certain age,” myself included, might remember the NHS eyewear that some unfortunate classmates had to endure. The choice of crystal clear, clear pink or clear blue afforded them little sartorial credibility. Fast forward more years than I’d rather admit to, and things couldn’t be more different. I encounter children in my consulting room on a regular basis, who would LOVE to wear glasses. And fashion, as is its wont, has gone full circle. Clear, (transparent and translucent) spectacle frames are the height of cool.
How To Style Clear Spectacle Frames
Clear spectacle frames flatter all skin tones and compliment every imaginable outfit. They work particularly well with light (texture and colour) clothing. It is better to keep the make-up light so not to detract from the frame, and also to minimise visible make-up residue, (though this is easily removed by washing the glasses in warm soapy water).

Experiment with larger styles; they don’t hide as much of the face as a darker frame and they are less imposing Not only that, a transparent frame, (or one with a mere hint of colour) acts as a highlighter, brightening the under-eye area, rather than casting shadows like a darker frame does.

My clear eyewear is the Victoria by Toplook, a young independent Canadian brand. It is super-lightweight and comfortable and the mellow, transparent peachy tone flatters my warm skin tone. It’s delicate and understated yet it still manages to make a statement. I’ll wear this frame a lot this season.
