I always loved going back to school and university after the summer holiday; September will be forever synonymous with a new term, a fresh start. These days, it’s not the semester that’s new, it’s the sartorial season. However, the principle, (and my feelings) are the same. The end of summer and start of autumn is the ideal time to take stock and plan a wardrobe refresh. Not for one moment do I mean a smash-and-grab haul of the latest must-haves, I mean mindful, careful selection of select new pieces. Timeless, versatile additions for the new season and beyond.
This vintage-style ponte dress from Boden is perfect for work. As an optometrist, I get up close and personal with my patients, so my attire must be modest and practical. It must allow me to get up and down and manoeuvre around the consulting room. I don’t want the fear of revealing more than I should, or the inconvenience of having to adjust the outfit when I move.
This colour block outfit is equally perfect for an upcoming city break to Amsterdam. It’s smart, comfortable, elegant and effortless. These boots are made for walking. And sightseeing and lunching.
Colour-blocking is a failsafe way of composing an outfit. This shade of burgundy is delightfully named “ruby ring.” It’s warm, uplifting and a wonderful way in which to embrace the new season. It looks chic and understated with navy and is head-turning with orange. And it’s the perfect foil for animal print; my leopard-print heels will elevate this outfit from smart-casual to smart.
The Perfect Pair
What is the perfect eyewear to compliment this dress? A warm, autumnal colour will compliment the rich ruby tone of the outfit and a geometric shape will balance its silhouette. These polygonal acetate statement frames are the “Date Shake” by LA Eyeworks. They’re strong, uplifting and always draw compliments. “Tortoiseshell” is a brilliantly versatile neutral which works with a multitude of colours, colour block and pattern; an essential addition to the eyewear wardrobe.

This dress is so elegant Liz and looks beautiful in you. Love it styled with the boots and can imagine leopard print shoes would look fabulous. Kareema x
Thank you Kareema. I’m so pleased with the dress Kareema. I can think of so many footwear and accessory options. The top-to-toe look is one I love though and it takes the thought out dressing but I’m looking forward to styling it differently xxx
Oh gosh I couldn’t agree more about the excitement of seasons changing! I adore proper seasons and the sartorial change to my life.
Growing up in Australia it was Su.mer and Winter with not much variation in between. These days I hear it’s mostly Summer!
I think that’s why I get such a kick out of switching my wardrobe over. Of now that I’m in New Jersey the seasons are even more defined and Autumn in particular is glorious.
The landscape definitely influences my outfit choices.
As for your beautiful burgundy dress, I think it’s going to give you many years of pleasure. Great choice Liz xx
Thank you Michelle. I agree. I think I’ll wear it over and over. And yes, I love to embrace the change in seasons. I can only dream of how beautiful fall is there in NJ. One day…
