Other than leopard print, brown doesn’t really feature in my wardrobe, my rails are full of reds and blues. This puff-sleeved chocolate brown midi dress is therefore something of a departure. It’s from Closet, (designed and made in London). I wore it first for a family meal to celebrate Poppy’s A-level results, (she got the grades she needed to get into Durham, her first choice).
It was a bright late-summer evening, so my animal-print espadrilles and basket bag kept it looking appropriately light. It’ll look cute with tan brogues and chic with strappy heels. I have a multitude of ankle boots as well as ruby coloured knee-highs that will take it through to spring. This dress, with its flattering empire line and fluttery sleeves ticks all of the boxes for an autumn wedding, a day at the races, a Christmas party. The footwear and occasion possibilities are endless.
I almost wore a coral lip, but decided instead to keep to a muted palette with a flattering brownish-burgundy lipstick, a darker shade of my natural lip colour. My burnished gold and glass pearl earrings although large, are similarly muted in colour.
The Perfect Pair
What is the perfect eyewear to compliment this chocolate brown midi dress? I wanted the overall look to be sophisticated but easy. I chose the “Little Lies” sunglasses from Otis because they’re effortlessly stylish. The dress has a strong, yet unstructured silhouette and these sunglasses enhance that. Along with my leopard-print espadrilles, they add visual texture to the outfit without competing. (I wear them a lot- see them here on the beach with a casual outfit).
