I had what I believe was an idyllic childhood. But my overwhelming love for this ruffled maxi does make me question whether or not I played “dress-up” enough. It’s something I put to my dad on Christmas day when I accessorised it with a snowflake tiara. He pondered for a moment then responded with a bemused shrug and turned his attention back to his parsnips. This maxi reminds me more than a little of the Disney Princess dresses so fêted by six year-old girls. When I wear it I waft around like a romantic heroine, lifting the hemline so I can ascend the stairs with the utmost of grace. In reality, I’ve stepped on the hem and stumbled up the remainder of the steps more than I should admit. But I’ll never stop dreaming.
Harry, as is the wont of fifteen year-olds, proffers his opinion of this ruffled confection of joy with copious eye-rolls and slow head shakes. But I don’t care. I love it and I wear it as often as I can. And it IS surprisingly wearable, especially with trainers which simultaneously give it a (slightly) cooler edge and turn it into an (almost) practical outfit. It shall come with us on our family trip to London during the Easter holidays next month.
The glittery bag was my not-so-Secret Santa gift from my fabulous Italian friend Barbara. You can imagine my delight when I opened it. My sparkle-philia will never dull, of that I’m sure and the colour is the perfect match for my berry dress.
The Perfect Pair…
What is the perfect eyewear for an exuberant ruffled maxi dress? It needs to be a strong style; one that won’t get consumed by the drama. These 60s-style berry crystal acetate square sunglasses by Pala not only hold their own, they complement and enhance the whole outfit. They’re the perfect colour match and the geometric shape contrasts beautifully with the soft romantic silhouette of the dress.
And you might remember from when I wrote about the Pala pink marbled eyewear that
- Pala gives a pair of spectacles for every pair they sell
- Pala eyewear comes in a sustainable case woven from recycled plastic bags and waste
- The sunglasses offer 100% UVA protection
How’s that for a fairytale ending?
