October has always been my favourite month. That in part is because it’s my birthday month and therefore the start of party season. But also it’s because I love crisp, bright autumnal mornings. Those with a nip in the air and a dusting of frost on the ground. And I don’t even mind the clocks going back, not least because of the invaluable extra hour. I enjoy making my home cosy for the months ahead. I love flickering candlelight and the textures that come with the season. Autumn appeals to my senses more than any other time of year. So, October is always special. This year though, it has been exceptional and these magical autumn days have left me in an autumn daze.
Autumn Daze
My trip to Stuttgart, where I spent my birthday, is something I’ll never forget. The following weekend, Ian and I got engaged. And last weekend we celebrated my goddaughter’s 21st birthday,ย just days after I’d met with my dear friend Lisa, The Sequinist in London for a blogger’s dinner at Somerset House. Among these wonderful, memorable social occasions, I even managed to fit some work in. I’ve spent several days at my new place of work learning the ropes and systems and refreshing my memory before I start back in practice proper, something I’ll do when my NHS registration is complete. This is my dream job in a brilliant independent opticians just a short walk from where I live.
My heart and my mind are overflowing and I wonder if I’ll ever come back down to earth.
Autumn Days: Ness Gardens
But among the excitement, I found a little tranquility. Ian and I stayed in the Wirral after my goddaughter’s 21st birthday party so we went to Ness Gardens the following day. The weather was far from being crisp and bright; it was grey and drizzly, but we had the most perfect afternoon wandering through the gardens. It was peaceful and both calming and invigorating in equal measures.
Autumn Days: A Canalside Walk
And then last week we had a morning off so we walked along the canal into Skipton and had lunch. So simple. And so perfect.
My faux fur jacket is from Jaeger and I must have had it about six years and the Boden Harrogate girlfriend jeans have become my new staple denim. (They are still available in all sizes in the clearance). I’m obviously wearing the same outfit on each of these days out but with different footwear.
My gold star trainers that I wore for Ness Gardens are absolute best friends to my feet and I’ve worn them almost every day since I got them.ย It was the first time on though for theseย tan leather biker-style boots. They’re from Lotus which is where I get a lot of my shoes and boots from and like all Lotus footwear, they’re extremely comfortable and very well made and I love the buckle and rope and stud detail.
November has a hard act to follow!

Fab photos, lovely Lizzy! And so happy to hear your good news.
I love autumn for the reasons you write about too, though I am much more of a spring girl. But I’m quite content when hot soup weather rolls around, plus the air smells wonderful with all those bonfires.
Oh thank you so much! And yes, the smell of bonfires is really special isn’t it xxxx
Beautiful photographs. I really love Autumn with all of the colours it brings. Love your boots. I may have to have a little try on.
