Tropical trends have been hot for a few seasons now in both the worlds of fashion and interiors. Exotic flora and fauna are de rigeur with everything from palm leaves to pineapples and orchids to flamingos gracing both walls and wardrobes.
This look doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s for those who want to stand out, express themselves and have a little fun. Embracing the tropical trend is an easy way to inject a little humour and a lot of colour and it’s guaranteed to raise a smile. It’s bright and confident and very uplifting. The perfect summer trend.
Tropical Palm Print Maxi Dress
I’d say palm leaves and cheese plant leaves are this particular trend’s signature look. I adore them equally. This is the Hazey Palm maxi dress by Every Cloud at Asos. It reminds me of a wet water colour print, the way the colours blur into one another slightly. (It’s currently reduced from £85 to £34 and at the time of writing is still available in some sizes).
It’s lined to the top of the knee which is where the slit goes. I love the one-shoulder ruffle. There’s a video of me wearing it over on my on Insta Stories. You can see it here on the highlights; just scroll through.
I got this fabulous embellished bag last year and it really does demonstrate the fun side of this trend.
As does my pineapple ring, (which is also available in silver).
And the green tassel earrings remind me a little of palm fronds.
Tropical Holiday Wear
Along with some other beachwear, I saw this long palm print kaftan when I was doing my food shopping in Tesco. I liked it so much that I did a video which I posted on my Insta Stories there and then. By way of a wonderful coincidence, one arrived the very next day- a gift from Fand F Clothing, who have very kindly sent me a few pieces previously. I went back that afternoon and bought two bikinis that looks fabulous with the kaftan. I’ll be taking it all with me on holiday at the start of August where’ll I photograph it on the beach, rather than in my office!
The first is this leaf print bikini. It has the same shades and tones of green as the kaftan but it’s a cheeseplant leaf design, rather than a matching palm. They both have rose gold style details- the fastening of the bikini top and the tassel on the kaftan. The bikini top has a detachable strap and is underwired with light padding. The briefs have cute side ties. This needs little more than the same tassel earrings and pineapple ring above and some bright flip flops to make that perfect poolside look.
Oh and by the way, just a reminder that everything I put on my blog and on Instagram is all in one place on my “Get The Look” page. Just click on the image to go directly to the appropriate website. So for example, the gorgeous bright beaded flip flops in the collage below are there. I add everything as I go along and check regularly that everything there is still in stock. I’ve put everything I’ve got so far for my holiday wardrobe into a separate category too. And you can find everything current in each particular post, including underwear and makeup where relevant, in a carousel at the foot of the post.
The other bikini that I bought along with my carrots and cat food is the red one on the left. The one on the right is by Fantasie and you might remember it from the post about my bright new holiday wardrobe additions.
And Finally…
I’ve been in love with this trend since I bought this fabulous green and pink high low skirt last spring. Despite me saying in the opening paragraph that it’s a perfect summer trend, I last wore it in the snow we had courtesy of The Beast From The East back in March. But I had already decided I wanted to wear it for a party, so I did. Perhaps I should say that the tropical trend is perfect for adding that summer vibe, all year round.

I must admit I too have fallen hard for the tropical print. You’ve chosen some fabulous pieces here Liz, very tempting you naughty friend! BTW, I think that high low skirt is still my favourite fashion highlight from you xx
Thank you Michelle. I agree. I love the high-low skirt so much. I can’t wait to wear it again xxx
I’m so happy to see leaves and trees and not flowers in a trend! I can’t believe I ordered exactly this same palm print dress; I had to return mine though because my boobs would not fit in comfortably (argh!!!). Otherwise, it was a winner. It looks absolutely stunning on you. You’ll wear that for many holidays, I have no doubt. xx
Oh Lisa!!!!! Never mind. You have a glorious figure. But yes, I know of your allergy to florals so this would have been a good print for you!!! xxxxx
A beautiful maxi dress with a super nice print and great accessories as well, perfect for summer!

I’ve long been a fan of any print containing leaves – tropical or not. There’s just something about it, isn’t there? You look absolutely gorgeous in this dress, Lizzie!

Thank you Suzy and yes there is. I agree. I wonder if it’s because they’re usually in shades of green which is a calming yet vibrant colour? xxx
Ohhhh so pretty – I love flowers, but have just realised I dont think I ever wear them, hmmmm that might have to change 🙂 Thank you for the inspiration, this just might move me out of my grey tshirt and black trouser phase 🙂
Oh, thank you so much Juliet. I wear a lot of flowers and sometimes think I should try something else!!! xxxx
