I think most of us would agree that spring has barely sprung so it seems a little premature to see seasonal reductions. I suspect many retailers have a surfeit of Spring Summer pieces because of the unusually cold March we’ve had. It’s been hard to imagine warmer weather, so much so, I actually bought a winter jacket last week, but more of that at the end.
One of my favourite retailers is Boden. I’ve shopped there for years. The styles are distinctive and the quality is excellent. The designs have a nod to the latest trends but they aren’t definable by a particular season. This makes them timeless and that’s what I believe in. The Boden sale started last week so I’ve had a little look. These are a few of my favourite things. When I recommend something, I endeavour to make sure I have it myself, or at least something similar in style. I would like to say that this post isn’t sponsored by Boden and nor was anything gifted. I simply love the brand.
The Boden Sale: My Lace Tops And Red Dress
I wore the red jersey Jordana dress for my Valentine’s dinner date with Ian. It is a very flattering, comfortable and versatile dress and comes in blue too. It is the sort of dress one can throw on for shopping, a lunch date, a picnic, a barbecue and holidays. I wore it with flat strappy shoes, but it looks just as lovely with wedges, court shoes, espadrilles and ankle boots. The full price was £80 and the red is now just £48 and the blue is £56. It is true to size and just so you know, I’m 5 ft 9 (175cm) tall and wearing a UK size 12.
I bought the Brittany lace top. in both red and cream in the Boden clearance for an excellent £27 each. They were £90 full price. The lace has hearts, swallows and flowers and is absolutely exquisite and the grosgrain ribbon bow at the back is gorgeous. If you’re between sizes, I’d suggest sizing up; again, I’m wearing a UK size 12. I’ve worn both of mine with skinny jeans. The cream top with zebra print shoes and the red top with red kitten heel boots. At the time of writing all three of these items are still available. And even if they’re not, it really is worth checking back regularly. Things get returned, especially during sale time. I’ve lost count of the number of things I’ve successfully stalked in the Boden sale!
The Boden Sale: Shoes
The red flat shoes I’m wearing with the red dress above were from Marks and Spencer last season and are no longer available. However, these Rosabel Mary Janes in the Boden sale have a similar aesthetic. They vary in price from £77-£78.40 and were originally priced at £98-£110, I adore the leopard print ones.
The Madison courts are reduced from £110 to £58.80-£78.40 depending on colour. I love the scalloped detail and they are similar to my own red scalloped shoes which I got from Lotus this season and wore with jeans and a sweatshirt.
Here I am wearing my red scalloped court shoes (the Tyler from Lotus).
The Boden Sale: My Top Five Dresses, Tops and Coats
There are so may gorgeous things in the spring Boden sale that caught my eye. These are my favourite sale dresses. Rather predictably perhaps, I was drawn to lace, to florals and to the midi length, but there are a lot of plain(er) styles in both shorter and longer lengths.
As you can see, my favourite tops are really quite similar to the dresses in their style!
I keep coats and jackets longer than any other item in my wardrobe. They are often a more expensive investment too. A classic navy blazer will earn its keep for decades, ditto a stone-coloured trench. From time to time though, it’s nice to ring the changes. To get something a little less safe and a little more exciting and sale time is a good time to do this. I love and would wear every one of these Boden jackets.
And Finally…
I said in the opening paragraph that I bought a winter jacket last week. I realised that I didn’t have anything smart enough for a day out when it’s cold. I have my padded down jacket that I wear for walking and watching football and I have several lightweight jackets and blazers which I wear in milder weather or if I’m driving to and from a venue and don’t need to brave the elements.
This leopard print coat is an incredible £30 from Boohoo at Next. Be quick, there are only limited sizes left. I love the mellow, easy-on-the-eye shades of amber and grey. It’s got pockets and fastens with a large press-stud. It’s warm, super soft and I absolutely love it!
I wore it on Saturday when I went to Leeds with Poppy for her birthday. I wanted to be comfortable for shopping but smart enough for lunch. I went all out with double leopard, which I now believe to be a step too far having seen the photographs! You live and learn. And…I’m wore the cream lace Boden blouse again. Now that I don’t regret!
