I wore this dandelion embroidered top earlier in the week for an evening out with Poppy. We went out for dinner and to the cinema to see Murder on the Orient Express.
It’s really quite rare that I have any one-to-one time with her. I spend almost every Saturday and Sunday morning taking Harry to his two football clubs and often, because of the distances involved and the 80 minute matches, we don’t get home until mid-afternoon. As well as that, Poppy works on a Sunday. She spends a lot of time in the evening doing homework for sixth form so we have very little “quality time” together. When I think about it, I get quite emotional, because in less than two years, she’ll go away to university.
She understands fully that because I’m a lone parent, the onus will always be on me to be transport Harry. We have a lot of wonderful, kind friends who offer to help and from time to time, I gratefully accept those offers. But, I want Harry to have a parent there, watching and supporting him; cheering when he makes a good save. I’m proud of him and I enjoy watching. If Ian’s here for the weekend, he comes too. It’s an enjoyable and sociable thing for everyone involved. It’s a huge commitment for sure. Sometimes the matches can be a two hour drive away and there are some very early starts. And it’s often freezing cold and wet; but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I will always, always. always do everything I can to support my children’s hobbies and dreams.
But, Poppy needs and deserves some more time too because she misses out. So, we’ve decided to do something nice whenever we get the opportunity. We might go for a coffee in town or watch a movie at home. Or do something bigger. We have a day trip to London booked for the start of December on a rare Saturday when Harry doesn’t have a match. And we can’t wait.
So, back to the outfit…
Dandelion Embroidered Top With Pom Pom Jeans
I wore this dandelion top with grey skinny jeans and purple knee boots last month. It’s so pretty and I particularly love the pearl bead detail. (Available here at House of Fraser). As always, when I buy something new, it’s with the intention of wearing it over and over. I work hard for my wardrobe, so I want it to work hard for me. I don’t worry about being seen in the same clothes because that’s real life. So, here, once again are my black pom pom jeans. I think they look just as nice with this dandelion embroidered top as they did with the red ruffle blouse last week.
I absolutely love these black tassel earrings. You might remember that I have them in turquoise. I wore them with a floral jumpsuit while I was on holiday in Lanzarote? I mentioned that I’d like to get them in black too, so here they are. They’re such fun and not at all heavy. At just £14, they’d make a great stocking-filler.
We walked to dinner so I wore my metallic animal print boots. They’re incredibly comfortable but have enough about them to wear in the evening.
We both really enjoyed Murder on the Orient Express. It made us feel (even more) Christmassy. Kenneth Branagh is a very different Poirot to both Peter Ustinov and David Suchet but I liked his interpretation. The cinematography and wardrobe/costumes were beautiful. The best thing though was spending time with Poppy.

Dear Elizabeth. What a wonderful post. I totally feel with you. Kids grow up real fast, so you are right to spend lots of time with them. As for wearing the same clothes I am on the same wave length too. It is better for the environment, better for your purse and it gives your creativity a boost when see how well you have mixed and matched existing items and have turned them into another great outfit. Wishing you a happy weekend. Love, Lieske
Thank you so much Lieske. Yes, they do grow up so quickly. It only seems like a blink of an eye since she was in a pushchair! I wear my clothes again and again and try to style them for different types of occasions too. It’s more of a challenge I think xxx
What a lovely evening you two must have had! No matter how many children you have, I think one on one time is so important, for us AND for them. I can’t wait to see what direction your clever Poppy’s life takes. She’s such a diamond.
On a superficial note, you look GORGEOUS here. That top is amazing (I’d like to submit it as a candidate for our Lisa-Liz borrow list). I adore dandelions… they’re like tiny fluffy fireworks, aren’t they?! Your hair is also looking particularly fabulous.
I can’t wait to see this film! xxx
We had a fantastic evening thank you. The film was wonderful and well worth watching. It was so lovely too, knowing we were out simply to enjoy ourselves and spend time together. I wonder too what direction Poppy’s life will take. She has her sights set on a great university so we shall see and yes, she’s a precious diamond. And OF COURSE we can add the top to the Liz-Lisa borrow list! 😉 xxxx
Great outfit and top details in it 😉

Thank you very much. It’s pretty isn’t it xxx
You look gorgeous, Lizzy. I love the pompom jeans – such fun! And the earrings and top are lovely too. I’d like to see that film – I’ve always been a huge fan of Poirot so I’d love to see the new interpretation!

Thank you Suzy. Yes, it was a lovely interpretation. Kenneth Brannagh was a slightly more light-hearted Poirot. Gorgeous cinematography too xxx
