In my previous blog post, I wore a bright red sequinned dress and wrote about how easy it was to get ready for a party by virtue of it needing no accessories and only a simple pair of heels. Here I offer an alternative party outfit, perhaps one which would be nice to wear for cocktails with the girls or if travelling to see friends and family over the Christmas period. I’m a great believer in wearing sequins and glitter all year round but over Christmas, I think it should be mandatory. Having a few sequinned, lace, metallic or velvet tops which can be worn with jeans or trousers is a good way of ensuring a party outfit can be put together in a matter of minutes.
A great pair of black trousers is a wardrobe staple and mine are a very thick Ponte Roma jersey with plenty of stretch to stop them going baggy at the knees (and to stop the waistband reminding me just how many mince pies have been consumed). I really do believe in paying a little extra to get some that will retain their shape, that won’t go semi-transparent after several washes but that are machine washable and that are a safe bet whatever the occasion.
This navy and black sequinned top is several years old and I like the versatility it affords. The three-quarter sleeve means it’s ideal for daytime wear as well as evening and its semi-fitted shape gives it a little structure. It looks as good with skinny jeans as it does with these trousers and it would work with a full midi-skirt too (I think it would look good with the grey tulle skirt that I wore with a short-sleeved gunmetal sequined top last month)
Unlike my previous post in which the red sequinned dress needed no extra embellishment, this simple Christmas outfit can definitely take more sparkle so I accessorised with a multi-coloured glitter clutch and matching Mary-Jane shoes and added three wrap bracelets and some multi-coloured gemstone earrings. To keep it looking cohesive though, I kept to a simple colour palette of black, navy and silver.
And if all else fails, pop on a pair of antlers, smile and pour yourself a glass of champagne. It never fails to get me in the oarty mood.
Love Liz x
