Yesterday was my 43rd birthday. I spent it with my children and my parents and it was perfect. We went to Leeds to do a little shopping and had lunch at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant in the city centre.
My black sequin sweater was an impulse buy following a birthday lunch with my friend Sally on Friday with which I had two glasses of wine, rendering useless any resistance I have to buying sequins, especially when in a celebratory mood. I’ll wear it a lot though and think it’d look nice with a tulle or a plated maxi skirt as well as with several other pairs of jeans and trousers.
My bag is the Fiona shoulder bag from Ilex London and it is a beauty. In soft nappa leather in a gorgeous shade of scarlet, it’s both stylish and practical and beautifully made. It will complement so many of my outfits throughout the year and I know it’ll become a favourite.
Once we got back home, my family sung Happy Birthday and I was overwhelmed by this chocolate and vanilla marble cake that my daughter Poppy baked. She really is a complete sweetheart and I was touched at how much time and effort she’d put into it. And yes, it tasted as delicious as it looks.
I often find myself in a reflective mood on my birthday and although the last year has been a happy one, it hasn’t been without its ups and downs but as I start my 44th year, I feel a very definite sense of excitement, happiness and contentment and as always, feel incredibly fortunate to have the most wonderful people in my life
