In my role as writer and editor at Aspire, I am privileged to read and write about many inspirational people, all local to me and many of whom have quite a story to tell.
One such woman is Jane Gibson, a company secretary, housewife and
mother to two boys, aged 17 and 15. Jane has written for enjoyment since her
sons were young and dreamed of being a published author since her eldest boy
was 4 years old.
Four years ago, Jane found out she had breast cancer. A
year of treatment and operations made her completely reassess life and what she
wanted from it.
One of those things was to make her dream become a reality. At 42 years of age, she decided it was time to share her stories with others. She turned the negatives from that challenging
time into positives and used her time to write. She put all her efforts,
energy and focus into getting her writing published.
To her delight, Jane’s first novel, “A Different Reflection” was published in May this year.
She said, “The world of publishing is a difficult one to get into and with the added worry of rejection it is quite a personal endeavour, but I felt that was part of the journey. It has been an exciting experience and completely satisfying and I hope that this novel is the first of many.”
Jane very kindly sent a copy to me and it is an excellent read. I won’t give too much away but it’s a a romance with a difference. The main character Kat is a journalist who finds herself reflecting on her life and her relationship when she visits a grand old house and its occupants about whom she is writing. There is a crossover in genres to fantasy or fairy tale perhaps which appealed to my romantic nature.
If you’re looking for an uplifting summer read that is a little different, written in a laid back, relaxed style, then this book ticks all the boxes.
