I have a fabulous new clutch bag which I used for the first time on Hallowe’en. It’s from a brilliant German brand Book Clutch. There is a lovely story behind it too. Petra, from the brand follows my blog and had read in my bio that I like murder mysteries and had seen that- clearly- I love bags so wondered if I would like one.
I’m a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes having read a lot of Conan Doyle’s novels but I’ve also seen and enjoyed many of the TV and film adaptations, especially the most recent series starring Benedict Cumberbatch. This, and the striking red and white colourway, made it an obvious and easy choice.
There are other genres including romantic: Jane Austen’s Emma (perfect for a bride or bridesmaid) and Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
It’s always lovely to receive a parcel, especially from another country.
It was beautifully presented…
Inside the clutch was a quote from Sherlock and a box of matches.
There is a magnetic clasp and the option of gold coloured edging, which being a magpie, I chose.
The blurb can be in German or English. I considered having mine in German, having studied it, (just to GCSE level), and having a fondness for the formulaic and logical nature of the language. However, I realised that I wouldn’t actually be able to translate it without cheating, so opted to have it in English.
I just love the personalisation, and with having such an unusual surname, I think I’m very unlikely to encounter another.
The bags are handmade, are beautifully lined and have a cute little mirror inside.
Surprisingly spacious too. I had my phone, compact, lipstick, mini hairbrush, keys and, by the end of the evening, a piece of flapjack, wrapped in a paper napkin and acquired covertly from my mother’s table. My brother had baked it and it was delicious and disappearing fast. I’ve learned over the years that I must act quickly and with stealth when my two hungry brothers are around. A skill I’m teaching to my daughter who is similarly afflicted with a hungry younger male sibling.
I believe I got away with it.
These are the beautiful professional photographs that Petra sent of my bag before sending it on its way.
I absolutely love this bag and think I will use it with jeans as often as I will use it for dressier occasions. The bespoke nature makes it a perfect gift or keepsake and it is guaranteed to draw attention.
Do take a look at the website.

It's a lovely idea isn't it. I probably should have left the dressing up to the children, but I love it! x
