An Amazing Red Sequinned Christmas Party Dress (And Six More Fabulous and Easy Party Outfits)

I have quite a few red dresses in my wardrobe. Uplifting, positive and vibrant, red gives me a happy, confident vibe when I wear it. But this super-sparkly red sequinned dress is on a whole new level. It's a statement piece, the beauty of which is that it needs little, (if any), accessoring and in fact the only jewellery I'm wearing is a pair of stud earrings- anything else would be too much. Because of that, it's a deceptively simple and effortless Christmas party look. It's a dress that can be kept in the closet and can be popped on at the last-minute, without requiring any more thought which is exactly what we need at this busy time of year.

It's a dress for shimmying, for dancing on the tables and for having fun in. For me, it's the epitome of Christmas party dressing.

The shape and style of the dress make it very easy to wear.  The ruching at the waist and elbow-length sleeves are very flattering and serve to add design detail.  The mock wrap style and deep v-neck flatter the curves and the cut is designed to skim rather than cling- always a sophisticated option, (not to mention being a practical, forgiving one over the festive period).

Opaque tights and a statement shoe add a little more edge than sheer hosiery and a plain court shoe would, but as with the accessories, I think anything other than black shoes would have made the look too busy.

That is my interpretation of an easy Christmas party look. My blogging friends and I, (who make up TheOver40Collective), have very different styles, so in case bright red sequins aren't for you, here are their Christmas Holiday party looks to inspire you, each as stunning and beautiful as the next.

  2. OMG Liz, you look unbelievable, and I am SO GETTING this sequin dress! It is 100 times nicer than the red sequin & Other Stories one I've had my eye on (which, like my dress above, is too short). Wishing you lots of occasions to wear this over Christmas. xxx

  3. That dress looks truly amazing on you and the opaque tights and statement shoes do work better than court shoes and 10 denier.

    1. Thank you Gail. yes, I wanted to keep it relatively "youthful" rather than too formal if that makes sense. I love opaques with pretty much everything though!! xxx

  6. I feel just the same about red, but I have nothing as wonderful as this dress. I might just have to see if I can find it in a good fit for me. I also think you are right about the opaques and shoes - there is just a touch of edge. Thanks for some great inspiration! Kx

    1. Thank you! Yes, I think sheer tights would have been too safe. I'll never be "edgy" (I'm just not cool enough), but the opaques add at least some edge!Red dresses are the business! xxxxx

  9. You look absolutely stunning! I love your dress! You have convinced me to go for opaques and funky shoes to go with my dress for NYE. Last I played safe with sheer tights but I think the opaques look really good (and will keep me warm on the totter home sometime in the early hours of the morning!!).

  11. Liz, this dress and those shoes.... soooo good. Poor women who have to deal with you at parties. You are the embodiment of perfection. I would love to own these shoes to make my dresses more modern. But for a couple of months I cannot buy anything anymore. Money is finished haha.
    Have a lovely Christmas.
