Do you ever get a pair of shoes and want to wear them with everything? I’m feeling that way about these colourblock heels. I wore them with a red midi skirt last weekend and then again with skinny jeans and this striped sweatshirt earlier this week for a restaurant review.

I’m a girly girl and favour dresses for special occasions and for eating out, but it was cold and the restaurant in question was actually a village pub so jeans dressed up with heels was the perfect solution.

And that’s the thing about a great pair of heels. Pop them on with either skinny jeans or boyfriend jeans, add a co-ordinating bag and the outfit looks polished, presentable and good to go.

Sweatshirts are a relatively new acquisition to my wardrobe and as a lover of the breton stripe and all of its variants, this one grabbed my attention. I like the fact that it is slightly cropped so can be worn with a skirt and the boxy shape which gives it structure. A smart sweat I suppose.  I envisage this one shorts and pumps for a picnic on the beach.

The colourblock t-bar court shoes are made from the softest leather and are as comfortable as they are stylish. They’re quite a generous fitting and if you’re between sizes, I’d suggest sizing downwards. Out of stock in my usual 41 (UK 7), I took a chance on a 40 which resulted in a (rather ecstatic) Cinderella moment. And for those that prefer neutrals, they come in an equally covetable black and nude.

March and April are always busy socially as we celebrate the birthdays of a number of my family and friends and we brought this particular party season to a close on Sunday with a lunch for my son who was 13 and my sister-in-law who was 30.

My red midi skirt is from the Gok Wan range for Tu and is in the most vibrant shade with the added bonus of pockets. I’m finding myself increasingly drawn to the midi length this season, finding it elegant and romantic and as much as I will always love a tunic dress, I’m enjoying wearing something different.

A voluminous skirt calls for a simple and streamlined top.

Bardot styles work well, (by drawing the eye across the shoulders, they balance the width of the skirt), as do slim fitting t-shirts that can be tucked in. A midi skirt will even work well with a sweatshirt if it’s the right shape. Take a look at my Pinterest board for more inspiration on how to style a midi skirt.

I’ve always loved Broderie Anglaise and this top with its Peter Pan collar is at least three years old and I wear it time and time again.

The vibrant orange-red is best complimented by gold jewellery and the Danon double star ring is proving to be THE piece of the season. Available from my online boutique Lizzy O in both matt silver and matt gold, they are hand-crafted in Israel, so every one is unique. You can see my fellow blogger and friend Catherine from Not Dressed as lamb wearing hers here. My next newsletter will be out on 1st May with an exclusive discount code for Lizzy O, so sign up by filling in the form in the right hand side bar.

The midi can be a tricky length to master, but the right shoes make all the difference and although I have worn a midi skirt with brogues, I prefer wearing with a heel. The trick is look for a skirt, the hem of which sits below the widest part of the calf. If you have slim ankles, draw the eye towards them with a statement shoe.

My colourblock heels are from Kaleidoscope and are featured in their current #SoakItUp TV advertising campaign. They are beautifully made in the softest leather and the red, white and blue combination is perfect for wearing with jeans, breton stripes and with nautical styles.

March and April are always filled with of a multitude of celebrations because both of my children, one of my brothers, my mum and my sister-in-law all have birthdays. Among these are Easter and Mother’s Day so it means we see more of our most loved ones and it means I bake a lot of cake. My son turned 13 on Friday and today, my sister-in-law is 30 and at their mutual request, I am making a curry and a cake for a joint celebration.

This outfit is from last night, worn for another birthday celebration at my friend’s house. She lives a mere tottering distance from me so negating the need for either flat shoes or a taxi.

Blush pink has been a favourite of  mine all season and this pussy bow blouse is ultra feminine. I’ve been favouring boyfriend jeans of late but felt the need for something a little darker and more fitted, to balance out the easy fit of the top.

My jewellery is also ultra-feminine and is absolutely beautiful. From Anna Lou of London, the ceramic cuff with cut out heart and the heart shaped ring set with gorgeously sparkly cubic zirconia is perfect for a romantic like me.
