Rain-dodging, Christmas Lights and Tea for Two in Skipton.

It's been a thoroughly wet weekend as the relentless wind and rain continued here in Skipton, in common with much of the rest of the country.

My son's football match was cancelled this morning, (Sunday), as even the all-weather pitch was deemed unplayable so it was tempting to hibernate for the day.
However, Adam, here for the weekend, and I were suffering from a touch of cabin fever having stayed in for much of yesterday, so donned raincoats and popped into Skipton town centre for an hour or so.

It was the annual Santa Fun Run, something I took part in with my son two years ago and I take my hat off to each and every one of the several thousand santas that took part in the awful weather.

I was very glad of a new raincoat courtesy of Dickins & Jones. It has a very neat fit with large pockets, a hood and a drawstring waist. I love the striped lining with yellow accents.

Skipton's Christmas lights were switched on a few days ago and the Craven Court shopping centre looks stunning.

And to make a change from our usual coffee stop, we decied it was time for tea at the quirky and fabulous Cake'Ole cafe.

Black Friday Special and... Party with Jacques Vert!

The Black Friday frenzy has been upon us for much of the week and I have been inundated with promotional emails with offers and discounts.

Sometimes, it's hard to see the wood for the trees. So I've grouped together those favourite brands of mine that, at the time of writing, have Black Friday discounts either live right now, or those that will go live on Friday, so keep checking back!

If you're viewing this on the desktop version, you'll be able to see that I have banners from my favourite brands along the right hand side. On some you can see what particular discount applies.
Click on these and you'll be taken straight to that website.

These include M&S, John Lewis, House of Fraser, Laura Ashley, UK Tights, Clarks, Boden, Joules, Ted Baker, Phase Eight, Coast, Dash and more.

These retailers are not advertised on my blog, but I believe to be participating in Black Friday, (just click on the names to take you to the website) are Boohoo, Kaliko, Moda in Pelle, New Look, Office Shoes, Paul's Boutique and The White Company

One of my newest favourite brands is Jacques Vert. It is a brand that has undergone a revamp and you may remember the fabulous tassel top that I wore and wrote about last month.

It's easy to overlook gems such as this that sometimes get hidden among the better known clothing brands, and if you'd have told me two months ago that I'd be excited about clothes from where my mamma got numerous wedding guest outfits back in the nineties, I would not have believed it for a second.

But it's true and I'll be wearing this top again for a 40th birthday party next week.

'Tis the party season and Jacques Vert have up 50% off much of their range, including evening wear, so it's an ideal time to invest in a party piece or two.

Three dresses caught my eye. The first is very formal, perhaps suitable for a ball or even a wedding. The other two are the sort that can be worn season after season for all manner of special occasions.

Metallic Lace Maxi Dress £349, £249

Opulent Lace Dress, £199 £99

Velvet Cocktail dress £249 £149

I also love this soft cover-up. I think it would look fabulous with a glittery vest, skinny jeans and killer heels.

Soft Longline Cover Up £89 £59

It could even be in lieu of a gentleman's arm around the shoulders in the taxi home.

Or as well as...

Either way, a very versatile addition to the winter wardrobe.

There is an additional discount code for readers of my blog for free delivery. Just use the code BFFREESTND at the checkout.

Small Businesses: Love Lammie (Seaside Inspired Accessories)

Love Lammie is an accessories brand that takes inspiration from coastal living and all things vintage. It is a family run business set in the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe in Devon with Victoria Lammie at the helm. She has created a beautiful range of weekend bags, wash bags, cosmetic bags, hot water bottles and shower caps, many of which can be personalised.

The Mr Lammie range launched last year, a selection of men's wash bags and travel accessories in quirky prints that I absolutely adore and would make perfect gifts for those hard to buy for men in our lives (of which I have several).

I love all of the prints but this grey star is my favourite...

...and I have the wash bag in this heavenly pattern.

I've had a Love Lammie iPad mini case for almost two years now and it is still pristine despite it being in constant use. It is made of a vibrant floral oilcloth, is slightly padded and is large enough to fit the iPad mini when in a smart case. It has a front pocket in which I keep pens and business cards.

It is currently out of stock, though at the time of writing is available for the full sized iPad at a reduced price of just £7.50.

Do go and take a look at this beautiful website. The designs are beautiful and everything is made in England.

Outfit: LBD and the most Fabulous Tights (For the Next Blogger Event)

As you know I went down to London last Tuesday for the Next Network Blogger Event at the Soho Hotel. I wrote about it at the end of last week but the photographs didn't really show my outfit (and in particular my tights). It was dark when I left home at 5.30am and also when I returned around 10pm, so I recreated it in its entirety when the weather permitted and when my daughter was on hand to take the photographs.

I knew it would be a long day involving a certain amount of walking between Kings Cross, the underground and the venue. I also knew there would be some time standing, eating and chatting so I started with the footwear upwards.
I don't feel dressed in flats so wore black suede ankle boots, worn so often over the past three winters. They are smart and comfortable and did the trick.

Working upwards... I wanted to wear some rather fabulous tights I had been sent from UK Tights. Black opaques, they look plain from the front, but they have crystals running up the centre of the back and I absolutely love them. They are as robust as ordinary opaques and are perfect for the party season.

When choosing my dress, I knew it needed to look pristine all day,  not crease en-route and be comfortable. This dress from Kaliko last winter has been excellent and is simple enough to let the tights do the talking. I added a very sparkly pendant (yet another purchase when I was buying stock for my boutique) and earrings and a beautiful black freshwater pearl ring. The ring is utterly beautiful and has an almost iridescent appearance, reflecting the colours around it.

Outfit:Cosy Textures for a Date with my Daughter

Yesterday was the most beautiful autumnal Saturday in quite a while. Clear skies, sunshine and more than a slight nip in the air. My son went to watch a football match with his friend so giving my 14 year old daughter and I the opportunity to spend a few precious hours together in the afternoon. She has seen an increase in the amount of homework this academic year, so has less free time and I was thrilled when she asked if I wanted to look round the shops followed by, (of course), a festive pit-stop here in Skipton.

She takes most of the outfit photographs for my blog and I would find it incredibly difficult without her. It's tricky at this time of year due to the lack of daylight at either side of the school day and I prefer them when taken outdoors, hence my "set" being against the wall of the house, if we can snatch a few minutes before she leaves for school. Yesterday though, we went to the park before we headed to the shops. The sunlight was just beautiful and she did a great job.
I wore cosy, much needed layers for what was a lovely relaxing afternoon.

The leaf pendant is from the latest collection on my online boutique. I love all jewellery but that inspired by nature holds particular appeal.

And how fabulous are these faux fur wrist cuffs? They were (another) impulse buy when Sally and I were procuring stock for the boutique. They bridge the gap nicely between the sleeve and glove.

And the silver double star ring is rapidly becoming a favourite.

Outfi: A Monochrome Sixties Style Top with Velvet Jeans.

After days of endless rain and wind, Friday started with very welcome and much needed hazy autumnal sunshine. This quickly turned to freezing cold drizzle but thankfully not before I'd loaded my car with stock for a pop-up shop my business partner and friend Sally were doing at the headquarters of Skipton Building Society.
We always enjoy it there and look forward to seeing our repeat customers of which there are many. We sold out of several scarf designs and our wrap bracelets proved to be very popular and at the time of writing, there is only one silver one left.

I gave my online boutique a mini makeover this morning and in order to rationalise it further, we have got seasonal reductions of some scarves (£6 from £10) from the summer collection. All orders will still benefit from free UK delivery and will be beautifully wrapped in bright pink tissue paper.

So yesterday's outfit was a monochrome one with everything, apart from my jewellery, being from last winter. I love the sixties inspired design of the top, one of my favourite style eras.

You can see my white bracelet in a little more detail here along with the dark grey and snake print wrap bracelets and the gorgeous leaf pendant, all of which are available from my online boutique.

The Next Bloggers Network Event, London. #NBNEvent

You might have seen from Instagram or Facebook that I went down to London for the Next Bloggers Network event which was held at the Soho Hotel.

Next has a bloggers network which any blogger can join and the event was hosted by them as a thank you and as a way of bringing bloggers together to share tips, listen to an expert panel and to take hundreds upon hundreds of selfies.

It was a 4.30am wake-up and because of the recent terrible floods here in North Yorkshire and the resulting disruption to the train service the previous few days, it felt a bit like a game of jeopardy and it was only when on my first train that I actually believed I would get there.

For me, travelling to our beautiful capital city is an adventure and I still get a frisson of excitement when I arrive at Kings Cross Station.

Kings Cross Station

The combination of the closure of the tube station I needed with my appalling lack of direction meant I was on the last minute arriving at the beautiful hotel, so I am looking a little disheveled here in this snap taken by a lovely blogger friend, Laura whom I'd "met" via Twitter the previous evening.

The two hour panel session then began during which four professional bloggers gave us a little history about themselves and the evolution of their blogs as well as tips for best blog practice along with ideas for growing social media following, something which I have been consciously working on, so I found it particularly useful.

The panellist on the right hand side is Rosie Fortescue, of Made in Chelsea fame. Having never watched the show, I had no preconceptions and can report that she is intelligent, articulate and incredibly hard working. Oh, tiny and rather beautiful too.

This was followed by a delicious lunch after which there was an awards ceremony.

The afternoon ended with a cocktail...

...or two and cake and I was pleased to see that every other person there also took an eternity photographing their drink for Instagram before actually taking a sip.

I left the workshop full of ideas and enthusiasm having met some fantastic bloggers and more than a little excited for Christmas having seen the beautiful Christmas lights on Oxford Street.

It was a fabulous day and one I'll remember for a long time.
