Sometimes, and I suspect (hope) I’m not alone in this, I base my outfit around a piece of jewellery, a pair of shoes or a bag. Today is one such day. I wanted to use a new bag so chose my clothes to match it.
It’s a large envelope clutch with the most fabulous magazine print. Large enough for day use, yet sleek enough for evening, and with the option of a chain handle. It’s a very versatile piece.
Sally, (my business partner and fab friend) and I are launching a small accessories collection to accompany the scarves in our boutique. These bags will form part of that collection and will be available online on Sunday 1st February.
I walked into town to meet friends for coffee first thing so wore comfortable wedge trainers styled with a monochrome outfit and a monochrome cat.

Beth Hughes is a milliner based in Burley-In-Wharfedale, less than 15 miles from where I live. She designs and makes everything from stylish winter hats and fascinators to flamboyant hats for special occasions. Following a decade long career in marketing and the birth of her two young children Beth launched her label “By Betty” at the beginning of 2012.
I was lucky enough to go and meet her at her home studio on Monday.
Beth currently displays her hats in her conservatory. A standalone studio is a work in progress.
I was of course in my element trying the hats on and fell in love with this design. The feathers are exquisite.
This striking 1930s inspired design also caught my eye
As well as headwear for special occasions, Beth makes fedoras, cloches and Baker Boy designs for every day wear.
I’m thrilled and excited to say that Beth is making a hat for me. It took some time to decide which design because they are all stunning and I would have happily had any one them.
All will be revealed when I collect it in around two weeks time.

I’ve had a lovely day today. A productive few hours working this morning and then out for lunch with a dear friend of mine. Sheila is a retired consultant paediatrician and will be 70 on her next birthday. She’s been a family friend for over 20 years and now although we don’t meet often, it is very special when we do. Today we had almost two years’ worth of news to catch up on so it was a leisurely lunch of three hours. My favourite kind.
I wore my Amelia Dress by Allium B. It’s from last Spring and is incredibly versatile so have worn it a lot. I wore it last Easter with bare legs and yellow heels. Today I wore it with opaque tights, heeled ankle boots and a black velvet jacket.
The beaded collar is so beautiful
And today’s pop of yellow was courtesy of my bag
We lunched at Breda Murphy’s in Whalley.
We both ordered chicken and coconut curry with fragrant basmati rice from the specials menu.
And how beautiful is Sheila’s dessert? Plum crumble with stem ginger ice-cream.
And I opted for “Mammy’s Christmas Pudding” with brandy butter and vanilla anglaise.
Everything tasted as good as it looked.
