Outfit Post: Olive Green and Autumnal Shades

Yesterday was a bright and hazy Autumn day (some of the photos are a little hazy actually; my son took them and he was struggling to see in the bright sunshine). The colours of the foliage seemed to sing out and every burnished leaf on the ground looked beautiful.

My children and I went to visit my brother, sister-in-law and their one month old daughter. She's an absolute blessing and we adore her. The children took turns pushing their cousin in her pram during a walk into the village. A simple and perfect day.

The colours in my dress are very Autumnal and I added an olive green polka dot scarf from my boutique.
I had a lovely email from a lady in Budapest, who follows my blog and who ordered one of these scarves. She has asked for advice on styling it, so I hope today's outfit provides some inspiration.

And here's Kitty Anna. Isn't she just beautiful?

Outfit Post: Lace and Sparkle for a Night Out

At any time of year, I will happily wear glitter, sequins and sparkle, but at this time of year, when the clocks have gone back and everything feels a little more atmospheric, I like to ramp up the glitz even more.

I wore this outfit for supper and drinks out with my cousin. Our mothers are two out of three triplets so we're very close. The fact that we both have two younger brothers means she is the sister I would love to have.

The lace top is pewter over a navy lining and the metallised fibres add subtle sparkle.

I love the three quarter length sleeves and scalloped edge.

Days Out: Chester

It's half-term, a time when I try to catch up with friends and family who don't live locally. The children and I spent a day and an evening with my cousin Sue and her family at their home on The Wirral.

Her garden is beautiful...

The historic city of Chester is close by, so we did a little shopping...

Had a walk around the wall...

And had lunch in a pub with a view.

Outfit Post: Two Ways of Wearing a Pussy Bow Shirt

I don't have many shirts in my wardrobe, because, I suppose, I associate them with work clothes. Something I don't need, being based at home.
This floral shirt with pussy bow is beautifully feminine, and would be perfect of course with tailored trousers or a pencil skirt for the office, but actually, I think with jeans it's a versatile, smart casual outfit.

The shirt has a very flattering cut, a bit of stretch and a distinctive neckline.. This shade of teal is one of my favourite hues. To add contrast, I added mustard yellow shoes.
The (very skinny) jeans are high waisted and super stretchy. Thankfully.

It'll come as no surprise to learn that I have a lot of clothes. But I do try and make them earn their keep by not saving them for best (within reason) and by trying to style them in different ways.

This jacket has definitely earned it's place in my wardrobe; I wear it several times per week. I like the nod to equestrian styling when worn over the shirt and knee high boots (or tweed Hunters in this case).

Chelsea Boots and Ways to Style Them

I've received lots of lovely compliments about my blue suede shoes, well blue suede Chelsea boots, when wearing them over the last week or so.

I showed them on my blog for the first time with a dress, which I hope will show that they can be quite versatile and work with more than just jeans.

Mine are the Marta Griffin from Clarks.
They're described as midnight blue but in reality are a slightly greenish navy. (I'm wearing navy opaque tights in the photographs above for a colour comparison). I always wear a size 7 in Clarks and these are true to size. They're perfect just to pull on and go. I think the dark maroon elastic and sole adds interest and softens the look of them.

The same style is available in black leather.

Also from Clarks is the Hamble Maze, available in both tan and black. As a lover of brogues, the detail on this style really appeals.

Yull is a small British brand that I've written about before. I love both of these styles, again with brogue detailing.

Outfit Post: A Fairisle Dress and Jumpers Without Wool

It's been windy, wet and wild for the last two days here in the UK, so it seems timely to start my annual search for wool-less (as opposed to woolly) jumpers. Very few things irritate me, in any sense of the word, but wool of every description does (cashmere, alpaca, Merino, angora etc). So, I spend a lot of time squinting at garment labels to see the fabric composition.

I've been caught unawares before and have unknowingly worn jumpers containing wool. Undoubtedly, warmer than cotton, but rather useless if  I'm immediately desperate to rip it off. Years ago, before I got wise to stealth wool, I remember Christmas shopping, an activity high up on my favourite activities list, yet feeling inexplicably out of sorts. It transpired there was 5% wool in my sweater, leaving me with "no choice" but to buy a new top into which I changed immediately.

I like to be able to wear a coat or jacket over mine for the many hours I spend pitch side, so I look for slim fitting styles that aren't too bulky. It means that they can be worn comfortably indoors too.

I started this year's search at Fat Face, from where I got some gems last year. I wore and wore them and in common with most knitted items, they became bobbly so now need replacing.
As expected there is a good selection.

This one has a dipped hem and comes in phantom (a dark grey) and navy as shown here.

And how gorgeous is this (100% cotton) Fairisle jumper? Also in berry.
I'm almost wishing for snow to go and out and trample in, arm in arm with...
Um, I digress.

Florrie Fairisle Yoke Jumper £40

I love Fairisle, but I know it's not for everyone, so plainer options include this cable pointelle jumper in a choice of colours.

Ayla Pointelle Jumper £45

My favourite is this blue. No surprises there though. I think one could wear a shirt under this. I'm not ordinarily a denim shirt type of girl, but I think, in this case, a soft denim or chambray would look perfect.

Ayla Pointelle Jumper £45

Plenty more to choose from at Fat Face and worth noting that for a limited time, purchases of over £70 will receive a £20 voucher to use in November or December. Perfect for stocking fillers such as socks, tights or jewellery perhaps?

Fever also have some that caught my eye.
I adore this soft duck-egg blue cable sweater.

Utah Cable Jumper £44.99

This monochrome mix is a contemporary way in which to wear tweed. This one would be perhaps suitable for work too?

Metz Monochrome Jumper £39.99

Onto John Lewis, where there are, literally hundreds.
I love the shape of this one by Wishbone.

And this quirky fox design (also in grey and also available with a badger design) is gorgeous, from Sugarhill Boutiqe. It's very reminiscent of the Joules Marsha jumpers which have a low wool content. I had one of the Joules ones actually, with a stag on it which I loved, but even with a long-sleeved tee underneath, irritated after a while so off it went to Oxfam.

Another intarsia jumper is this bear, which is quite cute for the festive season.

Between various meetings and phone calls with solicitors/estate agents/mortgage brokers, I popped into Fat Face to take a look at the jumpers and came out with this Fairisle Knitted Dress which I changed into as soon as I got home.
It is a nice to wear something other than skinnies.

It's football training tonight, but in an indoor sports hall. The boys play 9-a -side and it's pacy. The ball comes off the wall. A lot. It's too dangerous to spectate from the side, so I find myself watching from the P.E. store cupboard. With the rest of the parents, who on training nights, all happen to be dads.
Negates the need for layers somewhat.
